Meet the jury: Marva Griffin

23rd International Design Contest

The founder of the SaloneSatellite in Milan joins as a juror in 2024 bringing her wealth of experience in spotting young talent

The Andreu World International Design Contest is pleased to announce that Marva Griffin will complete the jury for this special 23rd edition, focused on the Circular Design® Challenge.

Marva Griffin is a leading figure in the field of design and décor. Her career began in public relations communications at C&B Italia (now B&B Italia), where she worked with Piero Ambrogio Busnelli, the company's owner and president. Her notable career includes being the correspondent and representative in Italy for several Conde Nast publications such as French Maison & Jardin, Vogue Decoration, House & Garden and Vogue USA.

Griffin organized the textile show "Incontri Venezia-Fabrics for Furnishing" in Venice for eight years and in 1998 founded the SaloneSatellite, a special event within the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. This event has become an important showcase for young designers and design students from all over the world. In fact, in recognition of her career, in May 2014 she received the COMPASSO D'ORO XXIII Award for career achievement.

In addition, for more than 20 years, she has headed the International Press Office of the Salone del Mobile in Milan. Her commitment to promoting new talent led her to create SaloneSatellite Moscow in 2005 and SaloneSatellite Shanghai in 2016, as a tribute to young designers from Russia and China, respectively.

Griffin has also been a member of the Philip Johnson Committee on Architecture and Design at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York since 2001. Her role as Ambassador of Italian Design, appointed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, among other bodies, has led her to give lectures on "Italian Design Day" in various cities around the world, including Seoul, Montreal, Madrid and Buenos Aires.

Marva Griffin's experience and knowledge in the field of design and her commitment to sustainability and the promotion of up and coming talent make her a valuable addition to the jury of the 23rd Andreu World International Design Contest.

Marva Griffin will be joined on the jury by four other prominent figures such as Marta Vall-lloresa (president of CSCAE), Angela Montagud (founder of Clap Studio and winner of Spain’s National Design Award -–Young Talent 2023), Marta Alcañiz (Head of Design BBVA Spain) and Thomas Garvey (president of the World Design Organization).
