"B Corp: The best companies for the world"
Under the title "B Corp: The best companies for the world", Andreu World brought together leaders of the movement to discuss their impact on industry, society, the environment, consumption and the economy. And to demonstrate from experience that being responsible is more profitable.
In the forum, moderated by journalist Anatxu Zabalbeascoa, the speakers were executives from Spanish companies that already have this certification, such as Leticia Sandoval (ESG and Sustainability Director, Camper), Dunnia Merino (Positive Impact Manager, Estrella Galicia) and Eloy Ruiz (Director of Sustainability, Andreu World), who were joined by Daniel Truran (Co-founder and member of the Board of Trustees of B Lab Spain) and Carmen Navarro (Manager, Spanish Group of Green Growth Companies).
B Lab Spain, Camper, Estrella Galicia, and the Spanish Group of Green Growth Companies, leaders of the B Corp movement, engaged in a discussion to demonstrate through experience that "the most responsible approach is also the most profitable one".
Daniel Trunan began by pointing out that “B Corp certification is a tool for establishing a business model that takes care of both people and the planet”. He then went on to explain the high level of demand for this certification, as of the 10,000 companies that applied for it in Spain, only 300 managed to obtain it.
Leticia Sandoval, for her part, explained that the BCorp certificate had served as a guiding principle for them to get organized and become truly sustainable. She also pointed out that they had realized that “the most responsible way of operating is also the most profitable”.
Dunnia Merino sees the BCorp certificate as a way of continuing with what Estrella Galicia, a century-old company, has been committed to since its inception: the maxim of “doing business and doing good by doing business”. She also points out that this certificate has increased the awareness of its employees, and that it sows the idea of a future paradigm shift in the business sector: not everything that is profitable is ok.
Carmen Navarro pointed out that this is the path towards a circular economy, and other beneficial practices such as a fair fossil fuel policy and a greater awareness of the environmental footprint of companies.
Eloy Ruiz, to conclude, explained that the path to obtaining the BCorp certification involved an increase in transparency and new environmental commitments such as research into new materials and reforestation. He also pointed out that it has a positive effect on the welfare of his employees, who are proud to work in a socially committed company. To conclude, he insisted that the way forward in terms of sustainability is already mapped out, so we just need to keep moving forward.
