Expression and beauty in the curve of the wood

The name of our first company was Curvados Andreu and it reflects the expert knowledge we have acquired about this wood transformation process. We soon learned that not all wood bends in the same way: tropical wood is too open-pored, oak splits and mahogany shrivels. Beech, however, is compact and elastic. For us it was always the best. That's why we decided to look for a forest in Navarra to set up our first mill.

Using pressure, heat and high frequency, any solid wood part or component that we want to manufacture can be shaped. By cleverly taking advantage of the orientation of the tree's natural fiber, maximum strength is guaranteed. Wood treated as plywood has allowed us to evolve because it can also be bent without losing its qualities.

In 1955 Francisco Andreu, at only 17 years old, took over his family’s small workshop where classic chairs were reproduced. In little more than five years, with the hope of manufacturing more contemporary designs, he established a factory of 8,600 square feet (800 square meters) under the name of Curvados Andreu. That modernity also extended to marketing and the company's presence at trade fairs in the sector began to become the norm.

Almost all synthetic or industrial materials, which do not have a valid appearance per se, want to imitate noble materials, especially wood. Its symbolic value is also indisputable. Lievore

The differences between a shape generated by cutting and those generated by bending are determining factors in the quality of the product. In terms of resilience, since there are no joints that can open or crack against the grain; and also aesthetically, because the continuity, whether of the mesh (the pattern produced by the longitudinal cut of the trunk that shows the growth rings forming parallel lines) or of the grain (when the longitudinal cut is tangential, then the rings are seen in the form of ellipses) enhances the expressiveness and beauty of the wood. As in the backrest or top of the Carola chair, another of the timeless designs in our catalog, which will remain so for a long time, because of its quality and because it does not go out of fashion, as Alberto Lievore argues, recalling the times of our elders, when furniture was inherited and this made it all the more valuable.
