Tamara table: Metropolis Planet Positive Award 2023
Design for a better world
Prestigious awards celebrate innovative designs that champion sustainability and eco-design
The METROPOLIS Planet Positive Awards recognize the most creative projects and products from around the world that benefit people and the planet, as well as the companies and professionals leading the way to a better-built environment. Assessed by four jury panels of experts in different project types and product categories, the winners and honorable mentions below represent the greatest achievements in current design that address climate change, ecosystem health, human health and equality.
Designed by Philippe Starck, the Tamara table collection is an example of sustainable design. It goes beyond aesthetics, seeking to have a lasting positive impact. The table concept is based on the constructive interlocking of flat pieces of eco-friendly oak plywood to create a solid three-dimensional structure, all without the use of adhesives or glue.
One of the standout features of the collection is its commitment to sustainability through its circular economy design. Flat packaging and easily separable components make the Tamara table an outstanding example of responsible furniture manufacturing. Each piece is designed with end-of-life in mind, ensuring that the product's environmental footprint remains minimal.
As noted by the awards jury, Tamara table "is not only a winner in the indoor furniture category, but also a testament to the power of innovation and commitment to a more sustainable planet. This environmentally friendly and visually extraordinary design by Philippe Starck shows the potential of conscious design in the furniture industry".
This award-winning piece is intended to inspire the industry to adopt more sustainable practices and to exemplify how good design and environmental awareness can coexist.
