In its special edition "Beyond the plastic wave"

In a ceremony held at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, Andreu World announced the winners of the 22nd International Design Contest, which this year held a special edition titled "Beyond the plastic wave." The jury for this edition included prominent figures in the design world such as Yves Béhar (entrepreneur and industrial designer), Nicoletta Orlandi representing Rosana Orlandi (Designer and Gallery Owner), Inma Bermúdez (industrial designer and 2022 National Design Award winner), Luján Cambariere (journalist and exhibition curator), and Carmen Baselga (interior designer).

In this edition, which invited participants to design chairs and tables committed to sustainability and the circular economy, over 300 projects from designers worldwide were submitted to the contest. Jesús Llinares, CEO of Andreu World, emphasized the innovation and creativity of the 300-plus projects, stating that they "accepted the challenge of creating designs that help reduce plastic waste" and highlighted the contest's commitment to excellence and promoting more sustainable practices in the industry.

The highlight of the evening came with the award ceremony. The first prize was awarded to the project 'Assemble Me' by Ana Lubiano, Elena Maria Rossi and Julia Triches (Lisboa, Portugal)  (Lisbon, Portugal) for its circular economy approach by optimizing transportation with a "Flat Pack" design and offering sustainable options such as repair and replacement of specific parts, thus extending the product's lifespan. The second prize, 'Chair' by Vaso Krcmar (Vojvodina, Serbia), was recognized for exploring new ways of sitting, providing an innovative and functional experience. Its unique design not only has a distinctive aesthetic approach but also suggests the possibility of developing a family of related objects.

Four special mentions were awarded to Gábor Radványi (Budapest, Hungary) for "Symbio," Jesse Hill (Baltimore, United States), and Trevor Hollard (Eggenfelden, Germany) for his projects "Taco Lounge Chair" and Scallop Coffee Table.

After the awards ceremony, Rossana Orlandi and her daughter Nicoletta Orlandi Brugnoni took the stage with their conference "Guiltless Plastics" a profound reflection on the urgent need to adopt responsible practices and innovative solutions to reduce the environmental footprint of plastics in today's society.

Attendees could also view, at the same venue, an installation created for the occasion of the exhibition "Beyond the plastic wave" curated by Carmen Baselga and Héctor Serrano, aimed at raising awareness about the plastic issue on the planet and advocating for sustainable solutions and responsible practices in the design industry.
