Ecodesign

From start to finish

Andreu Word has been working with ecodesign guidelines for over a decade

We are eco-friendly from minute one, when the design of a new product begins. From the very first sketch, we integrate all aspects related to sustainability, in order to reduce the environmental impact of what we will later produce and market.  We know that an efficient design is one that is more durable and generates less waste. It is not enough to know how to manufacture and sell a piece of furniture, we must be responsible until the end of its life, anticipating that each of its parts, when no longer useful, may be separated to facilitate recycling or repair.

According to data provided by the European Union as part of its Circular Economy Action Plan, up to 80% of a product’s environmental impact can be determined in the design phase. Making products that are more durable and that can be easily repaired and recycled is one  of the main objectives for curbing the massive generation of waste and its negative impact on the natural environment. The ISO 14006 standard is the guarantee under which we manage our product design and the development of our products in order to identify, control and continuously improve the environmental impacts that may occur in all phases of their life cycle in order to try to minimize them.

Andreu Word has been working with ecodesign guidelines for over a decade. During the design process we make the necessary assessments to achieve an overall reduction of the environmental impact, optimizing the consumption of materials, reducing energy consumption in the manufacturing phase and improving the finishing, packaging and logistics processes.

In 2012 we introduced the New Ronda as the first “ecodesigned” chair in our catalog. A version of the Ronda, originally designed in 2003, rethought based on sustainability criteria. What was then an event has become standard practice and we have continued to work to minimize its carbon footprint. We currently offer another new version with a Pure ECO plastic shell that is 100% recycled and recyclable.
