Andreu World announces the winning project of the 23rd International Design Contest
In its Special Circular Design® Challenge Edition
In a ceremony held at Caixafòrum Valencia, Andreu World revealed the winning project of the 23rd International Design Contest, a special edition focused on the Circular Design® Challenge, a global initiative aimed at promoting a circular economy within the design industry.
This year, the €20,000 first prize was awarded to Alexander Rehn (Munich, Germany) for Kaulu, a chair celebrated for its comprehensive approach to sustainability and its ability to close the product’s lifecycle from a circular perspective. Made with wood and recycled plastic, the design is intended to resonate with a younger audience, combining functionality, innovation, and positive impact.
The contest emphasized its solidarity with Valencia and support for those affected by the DANA storms
The jury, composed of renowned professionals in design, architecture, and sustainability—including Àngela Montagud (Clap Studio), Marta Vall-llosera (CSCAE), Thomas Garvey (WDO), and Marta Alcañiz (BBVA España)—evaluated over 300 proposals. In addition to the main award, honorable mentions were given to Chair 392 by Illia Masko (Ukraine), Folded Table by Michael C. Poulsen (Denmark), and Void Lounge Chair by Jonas Forsman (Sweden).
The event concluded with a charity dinner in support of small businesses and self-employed individuals affected by the DANA in Valencia. For each attendee, Andreu World donated €100, reaching a total of €12,000, which will be allocated to the NGO Mamás en Acción in collaboration with the Valencian Business Association (AVE), as a demonstration of its commitment to local economic recovery.
During the award ceremony, renowned advertiser Luis Bassat delivered a talk titled "Creativity." Bassat shared with the audience how creativity has been the driving force behind his professional and personal journey, highlighting how he has applied an innovative approach not only to advertising but also to his personal life. Through various examples, Bassat illustrated how creativity serves as a tool for transformation and brand success. He also emphasized the importance of applying creativity to design as a distinctive value. Finally, he referenced Valencia, offering insights into present and future needs for reconstruction after the DANA.
